ABOUT THE FLORIDA PARTNERSHIP FOR END-OF-LIFE CARE
The Florida Partnership exists to ensure all Floridians have the ability to access quality end of life education and information in their own community. The Florida Partnership is partially funded by a three-year Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Grant: The Community/State Partnerships in End-of-Life Care.
The Florida Partnership for End-of-Life Care has six major areas of focus:
- Develop/Operate Community Coalitions focused on local end of life issues
- Regulatory Initiatives (Advance Directives)
- Palliative Care and Pain Management Initiatives
- Culturally Sensitive Initiatives
- Development of End-of-Life Educational Materials for the Public and Professionals
- Professional End-of-Life Education and Training.
These goals will be accomplished through convening individuals and groups that share concern about enhancing the quality of end-of-life care for Florida's citizens. The collaborative efforts proposed by the Florida Partnership will encourage development of new ideas and solutions, strengthen collaborative efforts, enhance networking opportunities and will result in better end-of-life care for Florida residents.
The Florida Partnership will engage the active participation of key individuals statewide from health related organizations, universities and colleges, religious institutions, state regulatory agencies, legislators, community activists, the public and grass roots community providers such as physicians, nurses, social workers and clergy. The collaborative efforts will help ensure success of the project.
The grant award provides the structure required to build relationships and encourage local involvement, through the establishment of community coalitions. The community coalitions will coordinate, with support from the Florida Partnership, the local community efforts to improve end-of-life care. The Coalitions will create opportunities for public dialogue so that citizens have the ability to ask questions, voice concerns, and gain a better understanding of end-of-life care choices. Each Coalition will develop its own agenda, based on that community's needs and priorities as identified locally. The Coalitions will be a powerful force capable of creating the momentum required to ensure quality care at the end of life.
If you would like to join the Coalition in your area or learn more about coalition activities, go to Coalition Sites and Coalition Activities for your area.
